Jackson Hole

Jackson Hole, Wyoming is one of the harder layovers to get as a flight attendant believe it or not. I remember going through training and the flight attendant who was training us named it as her favorite layover. Not exactly something you expect to hear when as a trainee you think of all the foreign and exotic places you have the possibility of going to.

Her response stuck with me and as soon as I saw the chance to get a layover in Jackson Hole I snatched it right up.

Luckily the ladies I was working with were down to get out and explore and weren’t ‘slam-clickers.’ (Fun fact, ‘slam-clickers’ is what flight attendants call other flight attendants who just go to their hotel room and slam/click the door behind them).

One of them had the layover before so she showed us her favorite spots. Our first stop was a consignment store, which no I didn’t predict thrift shopping would be part of my layover in a mountain town. I’m sure glad it was. The store we went to is called Browse & Buy Thrift Shop. According to her the thrift stores in Jackson were so good because of all the affluent people who vacation there. She wasn’t lying.

I don’t consider myself a huge ‘thrifter’ but I got my thrift on. Not only did they have a great selection of normal clothes, ski gear and accessories they also had a book section where I found three books for $5. Well worth stopping here.

I’m sure I’ve said it before but I’m not a huge beer gal however I found myself at another brewery here, Roadhouse Brewing Company. I may not be a beer gal but you better believe I know a good burger. This places burgers reminded me of my favorite from back home in Iowa. Just the perfect amount of grease and cheese made this burger one I won’t soon forget.

After we ate I ventured off alone to find dessert. Another flying friend of mine had mentioned Persephone Bakery from her time in Jackson.

Not only was the pastry and coffee I had from here amazing, the bakery is in a little cottage which to me is the ultimate ski town vibe.

After getting all hyped on caffeine I spent the rest of my day exploring the Elk Antler Arch, the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar which sports saddles as barstools, and found myself a t-shirt for a souvenir.

Going back to my hotel was no problem.

The Wort hotel we stay in is so different from the usual chains we get put up in.

It’s warm and cozy just like you’d imagine a good mountain town hotel to be. With fire places galore and a teddy bear on every bed it’s the perfect place to warm up after being in the snowy cold.

Even the airport in Jackson gets an A+ rating from me.

Since it’s a smaller airport, you walk right out to the plane on the tarmac giving you the best view of the mountains. Especially if your flight leaves around sunset.
