Washington D.C.

No matter how tired I am after a day of flying, when I arrive in D.C. I’m brought back to life.

Every single time I layover in D.C. I rack up my step count. When I’m lucky we stay right in the heart of Georgetown. After getting settled in, I always take off and just enjoy walking around Georgetown.

From the cute brownstones, to the stacked shopping, to the amazing restaurants, you can spend hours just walking around. But most importantly… Georgetown Cupcakes.

I’ve been all over the world and tried all types of desserts. From cake to macaroons to cupcakes, I’ve tried it all and let me tell you no one holds a candle to Georgetown Cupcakes. Sometimes I’ve had to wait in line for maybe 10 minutes but boy, I would’ve waited for days.

My D.C. walk of the mall and monuments replaces any real workout I would do on a layover. It’s always fun to walk the memorial and monuments, and once a tourist even asked to take her picture with me at the Abraham Lincoln Memorial since I was a basic looking American. Of course I said sure.

Another great thing about strolling though this area is you’re close to all the best museums. The National Museum of National History, National Museum of American History, National Archives Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the National Air and Space Museum, and National Museum of the American Indian. Safe to say if you’re in D.C. for a few days, these are all viable options for things to do.

I’ve toured the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum before with my family and it is without a doubt worth your time. I spent hours touring and could’ve spent even more. All these museums are the best of the best. Any is well worth time of your trip to tour.

My personal favorite monument to visit it the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. It’s a little off the beaten path of all the other monuments and is framed by gorgeous greenery.

The absolute best way to end a layover in D.C. is at the POV bar on top of W Hotel.

It’s right downtown so you can see the Washington Monument and panoramic views of the city.

When I was there it was packed. Half of the restaurant was blocked off to a private party and the rest was filled with people just getting off work. POV seems like the best spot in D.C. to enjoy and relax after a day of work. Not that I would know since I spent my day sightseeing.

This bar encompasses the views of the city in a breathtaking way, and is the perfect way to experience the city.

Even if you’re not looking for a drink, they offer an array of food options as well.

Going alone to bars is always a little weird, especially when it’s so busy there’s nowhere to sit. I’d do it any day for the view and vibe at the POV.

Washington D.C. is rich in history, museums and cupcakes. Always worth the trip, and one day I’ll get there when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. Bet.
